Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about my widowed friends

Before you join

Can I get more details?

This website has a lot of information, so look here first. Then, if you still have questions, contact us.

Can you tell me where the venue is for my Town?

We do not run drop-in groups and try to ensure that our groups are only attended by members. So we don’t publicise our venues, and details will only be given to you after you join. All venues are central in the Town/City, and within 5-10 minutes’ walk of public transport. We choose venues that are friendly and large enough e.g. cafes, pubs, hotels.

I’m divorced, can I join?

No, this group is designed solely for people whose long-term life partner has died.

What if I live outside Cornwall?

At the moment we only have groups in Cornwall. If you send us your name, email address and nearest town, then we will contact you if we start a group near you in future.

Joining and fees

How do I join?

Fill in the “Join Us” form on the home page.

What if I need help joining?

If you aren’t very confident using the internet then maybe you could ask a family member or a friend to help. You will need an email address to receive membership messages.

I don’t want to pay with my credit or debit card, can you arrange something else?

The membership fee is processed by Stripe (who are used by many major retailers). They are a reputable company, safe and reliable. We can’t accept any other payment method.

What if I can’t afford the membership fee?

We can give some reduced fee memberships. If your budget is really tight please contact us.

What happens after I submit my membership form?

You will get a message on your screen confirming your membership application has been received. An email with more details will arrive within a few minutes. If you don’t get this, please look in your junk folder. Your membership pack is posted out to you, with your badge and venue details. This will arrive within a week and then you can start going to meetings.

What if I don't use emails?

If you don't use emails then you will not be able to join. This is the main method we use to communicate with our members. The only other possibility is if a family member or friend will allow you to use their email address.

Group meetings

Do I have to talk about my bereavement?

No, just come along for coffee and company. These aren’t bereavement support groups, but rather places to look forwards, to build new friendships and a better social life.

Can I bring a friend or family member to coffee?

No, only members can come. This is so that people can talk freely and be confident that everyone at our events are widowed friends.

Do I have to go every week?

Life interferes sometimes, you may be ill or have other commitments, but try to go as often as you can. Firstly because it helps you get to know people, and secondly, when the groups are new and don’t have many members, you are needed to keep people company!

How do I contact my group?

We suggest each group sets up its own Facebook or WhatsApp group for this, or you could just swap phone numbers. We don't act as a message service as the workload would just be too high.

Contacting Us

What if I have a different question?

You can check the website pages for more information, and if that doesn’t help then contact us.

How do I contact you?

Use the “Contact Us” form on the home page. If it’s an easy question then our AI helper will reply very quickly. If it’s more complicated, then a human will reply by email but this takes longer. Remember to check your emails (including your junk folder).

Can I phone you?

Use the “Contact Us” form on the home page first, as this will answer a lot of your questions. If you still need to speak to us after trying that, then leave a message for us to call, and we will get back to you.
